A quick update on where we are at As our dates coincide with cup week here in Melbourne it has been necessary for us to ask for all those wanting to attend this reunion to make advance bookings.

We have been able  to arrange a deal for accommodation here in Melbourne through a company called salt who have been able to arrange the following deal

studio with kitchenette
three nights two people  $423.00

one bedroom fully self contained two people three nights $604.00

these prices are in ausie dollars and a deposit of $79 is required when making your booking

What i  forgot to tell everyone is that booking from New Zealand ring free call 0800 896 060 (changed 1/9)
For those of us here in Australia ring 1300 797 577 ask for Sharon Johnson as she is the person arranging everything (note - changed 27/8)

As for travel arrangements I hope to have more on that in the very near future, what i can tell you is the requirement will be that you all depart Auckland and return Auckland on the one flight we have the venue down to two choices with the likely one being only a five minute walk from the the Mooney valley race track for those who may wish to go to the Cox plate the proposed daily orders are:-

Travel arrangements to Melbourne
From Danny Allen

After prolonged talks witH EMIRATES, QANTAS, AIR NEW ZEALAND, AND THE TWO  BUDGET FAIR AIRLINES  it would be advisable to make your own travel arrangements as the best offer was a 10 % discount on economy fair and they would have to leave and return from one port.

We feel this would arrangement would be unfair to those members having to cope with internal flights to and from the main port being an added cost to them so with this in mind we have thanked the air line concerned but declined the offer. Sorry guys we did try.

Danny

HMNZS Taranaki reunion 2009 - cancelled
Message just received - 17 August

Shipmates -

Well I guess that it will come as no surprise that the Tiddly T reunion had to be cancelled due simply to the lack of interest. I can understand that with the current situation regarding the economy and the uncertainty regarding employment that both of these factors must have figured into the equation. However, it also seems that there must be a fair amount of widespread apathy out there as well as apparently there were approximately 100 people in favour of the reunion being held in Melbourne.

Understandably, Danny and I are both bitterly disappointed as we did a lot of running around to select top venues and entertainment and outlaid some money for deposits which will no doubt go down the gurgler. That's life.

We're having a dinner in Carlton on the 24th of October as a number of people have said that they will be coming to Melbourne regardless. With some luck there should be between 15- 20 of us. No doubt there will be some catching up done on the night.

Cheers,

Rails & Darby
